What is Dihydroxyacetone or DHA?
Also known as glycerone, is a simple carbohydrate. It is typically derived from sugar beets and sugar cane. This skin browning effect is non-toxic and similar to the Maillard reaction. DHA reacts chemically with the amino acids in the skin, which are part of the protein containing keratin layer on the skin surface. Various amino acids react differently to DHA, producing different tones of coloration from yellow to brown. The resulting pigments are called melanoidans. These are similar in coloration to melanin, the natural substance in the deeper skin layers which brown or tan, from exposure to UV rays.
What should I do before my tan to prep?
Do not use any home self-tanning products 3 days prior to your tan. Wax or shave at least 8 hours before your treatment. On the day of your tan do not wear any body oils or lotions as these may inhibit the solution from developing properly. Wear loose, dark clothing and flip flops.
What should I do during my treatment?
Relax. I will first ask you to apply a barrier cream to your hands and feet to avoid discoloration on the palms and soles of the feet and to ensure your tan blends naturally. You can wear whatever you're comfortable in: swimsuit, underwear, the provided disposable thong bikini or nude. I will guide you through your tan as I expertly spray you.
How many days will my sunless tan last?
The lifespan of your sunless tan will depend on the self-tanning application process, the skin's natural exfoliation process, and the skincare regimen following your sunless tan application. When receiving a professional application you can expect 6 to 10 days using quality tanning solutions. Exfoliating before your tan, then daily moisturizing typically will extend your tan's lifespan by 30%.
How long should I wait after a tan before showering?
You should wait for at least 6 to 8 hours prior to showering. The DHA ingredient will not react with your skin proteins if you bathe or shower before 6 hours, giving you much lighter tanning results.
EXCEPTION: RAPID SPRAY TAN SOLUTION
If you upgraded to rapid spray solution this allows you to shower within 2-4 hours.
Wait 2 hours to shower = Light Tan
Wait 3 hours to shower = Medium Tan
Wait 4 hours to shower = Dark Tan
Will the spray tanning solution come off on my clothes and bed sheets?
You might experience that some of the bronze color will rub off on clothing or bed sheets. To minimize the chance of the bronzer transferring to your clothing, we recommend that you always wear long, loose-fitting dark tops and pants. This will help hide any transferring of bronzer until you wash the clothes you were wearing. Refraining from physical exertion until after waiting 6 to 8 hours to shower will help minimize your transferring any bronzer to your clothes through sweating. Our solution bronzer is water-soluble and will, in most cases, wash out of your clothing or sheets once washed.
How long will the spray tan application take?
Using HVLP tanning equipment your application will take anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes to complete.
Why do I feel "tacky?"
Our solution is aloe based which can feel tacky for a short period of time after being applied.
